Parks and Recreation

The Mt. Vernon-Black Township Parks and Recreation Department welcomes you to the City of Mt. Vernon website. The Parks Department is made up of individuals that are dedicated to serving the community and providing a variety of recreational opportunities.

Over the past few years, we have begun to focus on the image of our department and our city. We have made progress, and with the help from the community, we can continue to make improvements to our parks and programs. To unify the community of Mt. Vernon and Black Township by providing diverse recreational opportunities, beautiful parks, attractive facilities, and innovative leadership for the enjoyment of our residents and visitors. 

Parks and Recreation offices and the Community Center are located at the old Hedges Central School (716 Locust St). Enter Parks office through entrance #8 (on 8th St). Enter the Community Center through entrance #11 (eastside of school off 8th St).
