The Mount Vernon Police Department is located at 311 College Ave. near the corner of 4th & College Ave. The department is made up of 16 full-time sworn officers and employs one full time secretary. Andy Rush was appointed Chief of Police in September 2022.

Recruitment

The Mount Vernon Police Department continues to accept applications for the position of Lateral Police Officer. In December 2022, the Mount Vernon Common Council approved an ordinance allowing a $10,000 hiring bonus to be given to qualifying lateral police officers.  This lateral bonus will be paid in $5,000 increments at the successful completion of year 1 and year 3, respectively.  Qualifying lateral officers will also be eligible to receive an accelerated pay increase of $2,000 after successful completion of the FTO program. 


To be a qualifying lateral officer, you must: 1) Be an Indiana Tier I Certified Officer, without restriction, as defined by ILEA, prior to application with the MVPD; or be a graduate of an academy recognized by ILEA to be a Tier I Basic Training Academy and must have completed the Indiana training requirement waiver process (and have written confirmation of the waiver issued by ILEA) prior to applying with the MVPD. 2) Be or have been employed as an active, fully sworn, full-time law enforcement officer with full powers of arrest with a state, county or local municipality law enforcement agency within (1) year from the date of application with the MPVD; and 3) Cannot have been previously employed by the MVPD in any capacity for five (5) years prior to the date of applying with the MVPD.


The Mount Vernon Police Department is also accepting applications for the position of Police Officer (without previous experience).  Applications are being accepted on a continual basis until a hiring process can begin.

The benefits for the Mount Vernon Police Department include:

 

Starting pay of $56,644 with $2,000.00 increase upon completion of one year probation period, plus annual city increase. Annual shift differential pay is $1,000 for second shift and $2,000 for third shift.  Longevity pay of $204 annually up to 20 years of service.  Officers receive vacation days, sick days, as well as personal days.  Duty belt and accessories, weapons, and body armor provided by the MVPD.

A clothing allowance of $1,000 per year.  Take home car is provided.  Health, dental, and vision insurance is offered.  Life insurance policy is provided by the City.  Retirement provided through the Public Employee’s Retirement Fund (INPRS).  For further hiring requirements, download the application listed below.

Meet the Officers

Andy Rush

Andy was appointed Chief of Police in August of 2022. He began his law enforcement career with the Owensboro Police Department in 1998 and has also served with the Kentucky State Police as well as the Madisonville Police Department (retired October 2021). Andy holds an Associate of Applied Science in Law Enforcement and is a graduate of The Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville.

Korben Sellers

Korben was hired in 2014. He holds the position of Captain. He is a general instructor, physical tactics instructor, active shooter instructor, and field training officer.  Korben is currently an active duty member proudly serving in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Benjamin Bohleber

Ben was hired in 2000. He holds the position of Detective. He is also an instructor through the ILEA and the departments Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVO) instructor. Ben graduated from the Advanced EVO School in October 2014. Ben has an Associate of Science Degree in Law Enforcement from Vincennes University.


Anthony Stallings

Tony was hired as an officer in 2005. He currently holds the position of Corporal and is also a Field Training Officer. Tony previously worked for the city for 13 years as the Animal Control officer and was a Reserve Officer for the department all prior to being hired as a full-time officer. Tony is also a veteran who proudly served in the U.S. Army.

Darrin Lemberg

Darrin was hired in 2006. He currently holds the position of Corporal and previously worked as an officer for West Terre Haute, IN. Darrin is a general instructor, Taser instructor, and a field training officer.Darrin has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminology from Indiana State University. Darrin is a veteran who proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Colton Givens

Colton was hired in 2014. He holds the position of Sr.Patrol Officer. Colton is a general instructor, firearms instructor, crisis intervention officer, the department's armorer, and a field training officer. Colton previously work for the city as the Animal Control Officer and was also a Reserve Officer for the department. Colton has attended specialized training for National Animal Control levels 2 and 3.

Skylar Turner

 Skylar was hired in 2015 and holds the position of Sr. Patrol Officer. Skylar is a general instructor, emergency vehicle operations instructor, field training officer, and a crisis intervention officer. He is also a School Resource Officer. Skylar previously worked for the City of Mount Vernon Water Works prior to being hired as an officer.

Brandon Brauser

Brandon was hired in 2014. He holds the position of Sr. Patrol Officer. Brandon is a general instructor, Taser Instructor and a field training officer. Brandon was previously a Reserve Officer for the department before being hired full-time.


Karlee Eickhoff

Karlee was hired in 2019. She holds the position of Patrol Officer. Karlee previously worked for Gibson County Sheriff’s Office as a correctional Officer. Karlee is currently an active duty member proudly serving in the U.S. Army National Guard.

Brandon Woodley

Brandon was hired in 2019. He holds the position of Patrol Officer. Brandon is a member of the rescue task force, and a paramedic. Brandon previously worked for Air Evac Life team as a flight paramedic.

Austin Davis 

Austin was hired in 2020. He holds the position of Patrol Officer. He also serves as a member of the Perry Township Fire Department. 

Zachary Adkins

Zach was hired in 2022.  He currently holds the position of Patrol Officer.  He has also served as a member of Wadesville and Perry Fire Departments over the last 6 years.  Zach has previously graduated from a New Mexico Fire Academy at San Juan College.
